Pascal Belin, Ph.D.

Dr. Belin obtained a degree of engineering from Ecole Polytechnique (Palaiseau, France) in 1992, and a Ph.D. in Cognitive Sciences from École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris, France) in 1997. He then joined the Montreal Neurological Institute (McGill University, Canada) as a postdoctoral fellow, and the Department of Psychology at the University of Montreal in 2001 as an Assistant Professor. After extended research stays in Orsay, Montréal and Glasgow, Dr. Belin is now established at the La Timone Neuroscience Institute at Aix-Marseille University.

His research interests are in the cognitive neuroscience of auditory processing in general, of voice processing in particular. The Neural basis of communication (BaNCo) lab in Marseille uses neuroimaging and machine learning techniques to investigate the neural mechanisms of communication in human and non-human primates. His research group investigates the cerebral bases of our ability to perceive different types of information in voices. Experiments using a combination of psycho-acoustical (voice morphing), neuroimaging (fMRI, MEG, EEG) and machine learning techniques examine the functional organization of voice information processing in the brain.
