Krista Byers-Heinlein, Ph.D.

Krista Byers-Heinlein is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Concordia University. She completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Computer Science at McGill University, and went on to an M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of British Columbia. Her current work is funded by NSERC, SSHRC, NIH, and CRBLM.

Dr. Byers-Heinlein’s research focused on the development of infants and toddlers growing up bilingual, asking questions about language, social, and cognitive development.  Current projects investigate how bilingual infants discriminate and separate their languages, how bilingual children learn new words, how bilingualism affects children’s thinking, and how bilingual parents interact with their young children to support language acquisition.  Methods are diverse, including eye-tracking, looking-time, reaching measures, and parent questionnaires. Dr. Byers-Heinlein has a strong interest in and commitment to large-scale collaborations and Open Science, and is a founding member of the ManyBabies Consortium.
