Bernard Bouchard started his musical training as a child. After receiving a Master’s degree in composition at Université de Montréal, he taught musical theory and harmony there from 1988 to 1998. In 1993, he joined Isabelle Peretz’s research lab on music cognition, position that he still holds at BRAMS.


  • Assesses needs, discusses developping research projects with the researchers and their teams, and gives advice on choice of equipment, configurations, software and appropriate methods. Researches and provides technical literature and references.
  • Composes, arranges, performs, records, edits and analyzes music and audio material for experimental purposes.
  • Writes guides and trains users on the appropriate procedures related to the operation of workstations and digital audio equipment.
  • Provides support to users on signal processing and software programming.
  • Ensures general information technology support.
